OUR STORY

OPEN SINCE 2012, SOLID HAS HELPED PIONEER TOURISM IN EL TRÁNSITO, NICARAGUA, SHOWING HOW BUSINESSES AND COMMUNITY CAN GROW TOGETHER.

2012: The Beginning

SOLID Surf Camp opened in El Tránsito, Nicaragua in 2012, when tourism in the village was nearly nonexistent. From the beginning, our goal was to show how travel, business, and community could grow together thoughtfully and responsibly.

What started as a small all-inclusive surf camp offering surfing, yoga, and volunteer experiences was built around a simple idea: create a safe, authentic way for travelers to experience Nicaragua while connecting with its culture and community.

Growing with El Tránsito

As more people discovered El Tránsito, we began welcoming a wider mix of travelers — backpackers, families, and locals looking for a quiet beach escape. In response, SOLID expanded to include dorm-style lodging and bed-and-breakfast options, allowing us to host guests with different budgets and travel styles.

Adapting Through Change

In 2018, political unrest across Nicaragua caused tourism to decline sharply. Like many businesses, we had to adapt. We consolidated operations into our current beachfront property and shifted to a more flexible model that ultimately made the most sense for both our guests and the community.

When the pandemic followed, travel slowed again, but we were fortunate to keep our doors open and continue supporting our team.

Growing with the Community

Along the way, we’ve taught some of the first surfers in El Tránsito — many of whom are now among the strongest in the lineup. Our team and management are fully Nicaraguan, and we prioritize local employment at every level, bringing in volunteers only for roles that can’t be filled locally.

Today

Today, SOLID remains rooted in the belief that meaningful travel is about connection — to place, to people, and to everyday life in El Tránsito.

MEET THE TEAM

The most important part of our company, aside from our guests, is the SOLID team. We take pride in hiring skilled, passionate people across every role and in providing competitive salaries and benefits that support a healthy, balanced life. We believe work can — and should — be enjoyable, and that the success of our company is built on the success of our team. SOLID is a close-knit community, and once you visit, you become part of the extended family.

"Great Surf Destination and Experience. Our recent trip to Solid Surf Nicaragua was an amazing experience. Absolutely exceeded expectations, staff was friendly and very accommodating, fresh food and juice with every meal. The room was comfortable and the property sits on an uncrowded beach with warm water and great waves. Locals on the beach and in the water were happy to see you. Couldn't be happier with our visit to Solid Surf."
